Risk is probably the best-known and considered as most-played war game. First made and published in 1959, Risk has proven to be an enduring classic game. The first edition of the Risk uses wooden cubes representing one army each. There are also rounded triangular prisms that represent ten armies each. The later versions are molded plastic because they aimed to reduce the cost. In 1980 version, the pieces changed into Roman numerals. It was in the 1993 edition when plastic infantry tokens, a cavalry, and artillery were introduced. The infantry, cavalry, and artillery represent single, five, and ten units respectively. The 40th anniversary collector's edition has the same pieces of troops but a metal replaced the plastic pieces. In the edition of 2005, wooden cubes back once again. Five dice in two colors are included in the standard equipment. The two dice are use by the defender while the three dice are use by the attacker. Seventy-two Risk cards are also included with 42 of these depicting territories.
The common standard Risk board game includes Risk cards, dice, and six sets of miniature armies. The newer game editions include new scenarios and new objectives, and are stand-alone games not expansions. The software version also features cutting-edge artificial intelligence and some stunning 3-D graphics, as well as excellent multiplayer options. There are few ways to win and play an official version of Risk online, but many unofficial sites offer the opportunity.
